City Council to Weigh Rainbow District Expansion, Pride Contracts, and Green Bike Lanes

The West Hollywood City Council will meet Monday, April 7, with a full agenda that includes long-term planning for the Rainbow District, expanded agreements for WeHo Pride, and a new policy to paint bike lanes green citywide.

A major item under consideration would formally designate the Rainbow District—stretching along Santa Monica Boulevard from La Cienega to Doheny—as a distinct destination for nightlife and LGBTQ+ culture. The proposal outlines branding and infrastructure improvements, including murals, social media campaigns, and pilot events such as a nighttime concert or outdoor film series. The plan also calls for increased trolley service, new street pole banners, visitor guides, and revised sidewalk dining rules. Several components carry one-time costs, including $100,000 for special events and $90,000 for a proposed mural festival.

The Council will review updates related to WeHo Pride 2025. Recommendations include a $225,000 contract for traffic control equipment, a five-year extension of the city’s production agreement with JJLA, and an $80,000 allocation to support West Hollywood’s participation in WorldPride, scheduled for June in Washington, D.C.

A separate item proposes a resolution opposing cuts to global HIV prevention and treatment programs. The resolution directly cites former President Donald Trump’s administration for reducing support and directs staff to send letters of opposition to federal officials, including the U.S. Secretary of State and local congressional representatives.

Transportation appears throughout the agenda. In addition to the Pride-related logistics and trolley expansion, the Council will consider a new city policy to paint all Class II bike lanes green, beginning with corridors along Santa Monica Boulevard, San Vicente, and Fairfax. Another item proposes a $395,000 feasibility study for installing protected bike lanes on Beverly Boulevard.

Other items include the reinstatement of Go-Go Dancer Appreciation Day, a resolution recognizing April as Fair Housing Month, and appointments to city commissions and advisory boards.

The meeting begins at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard and will be streamed live on WeHoTV and accessible via Zoom.

I dont see many people on bike lanes? Am I wrong? The city wants to invest more in them…. How about making the parking at meters cheaper? The area is dead during the day. How about a study on what would bring more buissness in?
