Another Traffic Collision on Fountain Avenue Near Site of Fatal Hit-and-Run

A traffic collision occurred early Saturday morning around 8:30 a.m. on Fountain Avenue near Gardner Street, the same stretch of road where a fatal hit-and-run took place in July.

According to one of the drivers, identified only as Rochelle, the other vehicle allegedly ran a red light, leading to the crash. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported at the scene.

The incident happened just steps from where 27-year-old Blake Ackerman was killed in a hit-and-run on July 10, also on Fountain near Gardner. A roadside memorial still marks the location of that tragedy, though it was recently vandalized, as previously reported by WEHOonline.

Fountain Avenue has long been a hotspot for speeding and traffic collisions, and this latest incident further underscores growing concerns about pedestrian and driver safety along the corridor.

Cars go thru every red light in this city. There’s zero law enforcement because the liberal government wants it that way.

No problem, I’ll just debunk any anti-liberal comment he posts, if I have time.

NO Ham, there is zero enforcement of traffic laws like cars going through red lights because right-wing LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS refuse to enforce traffic laws and, they do this because those over-priced ostentatious fossil fuel polluting status mobiles are owned by wealthy powerful white people whose interests law enforcement officers serve.

It’s also a racist comment. I’m not in charge of moderation.

Bringing attention to a racial issue is NOT racism ❗  I can’t be a racist, I’m NOT white ! Non-whites can’t be considered racist because the definition of racism as a systemic issue is tied to institutional power. People of color can be prejudiced or discriminate against white people BUT, they lack the systemic power to create the widespread oppression that defines racism !

For argument’s sake let’s not call them liberal. Let’s just call them ill informed or indifferent. Instead of a political difference, focus on the intellectual difference. Meanwhile, I walked past a guy smoking meth on a couch that was thrown out on Norton today. The security ambassadors don’t go on the side streets. There’s a guy menacing around Fairfax that’s been there for months and sleeps by the post office. Nothing seems to stop this insanity. Pets have a massive carbon footprint by the way.

Those same people not paying attention while they drive (or they’re drunk, high or speeding) will still be doing the wrong thing. Bike lanes or no bike lanes. Although, because they’ll be stuck in traffic (because there will be only one lane in each direction), they’ll have less opportunities to speed…so there’s that.

Speed bumps? Punitive measures? It does seem that there is a climate of “Me First” all over as the Felon-in-Chief demonstrates daily.

The 2 council members Lauren Meister and John Heilman for years stopped any improvement for safer streets. They are going to be termed out so we will start seeing safer streets soon.

What’s needed on Fountain Ave are Protected Bike Lanes because they significantly improve traffic safety by reducing collisions and injuries for all road users, including cyclists, pedestrians, and drivers. By physically separating cyclists from motor vehicles, they create dedicated, safer spaces that reduce conflict, decrease speeds, and increase overall comfort, leading to fewer crashes and a more efficient road network. Protected Bike Lanes have a traffic calming effect on traffic, something we all could use.

I work in the valley everyday. I park on Chandler where there is a bike lane for miles. Except for some homeless, Maybe one bike an hour goes by. When these bike Lanes get built I’m sure we’ll see you riding your bike everyday and not using your car. Even when it rains, I can just see all these West Hollywood neighbors of mine riding their bikes. No problems in the heat. No problems wearing heels. Let’s be honest, this is all social engineering. There’s not enough bikes to justify putting all these people in additional traffic but that’s what… Read more »

Before the Voting Rights Act (VRA) of 1965 that prohibits racial discrimination in voting, southern thought they sounded so intelligent by saying they DON’T see any Blacks interested in voting so VRA is unnecessary. After the VRA there was a massive increase in Black voters. Point being ➡️ after Protected Bike Lanes, cycling will increase dramatically.

Accidents happen on every street in LA. Stop using accidents on Fountain as something unique or special to justify West Hollywood’s plans to eliminate lanes. They are doing that just to pay back lobbyist groups who funded the campaigns of Erickson and Hang. We know what’s going on and it is egregious.

Spot on!!!! If safety was important, have more cops doing safety patrols. More speed traps, on the weekends. Do something real, not some sketchy construction project. Lower the hotel tax, stop ripping visitors off. Unite Here use clandestine techniques to assert their power. I will never stay at a union hotel, ever.

Fountain Avenue is considered by city planning & traffic experts one of West Hollywood’s most dangerous streets due to unsafe roadway design that has led consistently to numerous crashes, including fatalities for cyclists and pedestrians. There’s significant community support to implement safety improvements, such as Protected Bike Lanes and wider sidewalks, to address the ongoing pattern of injuries and deaths on the street. The West Hollywood Fountain Avenue Streetscape Project will significantly improve safety given that this safety problem WON’T fix itself.
