42 year old Elmer Mercado was arrested and booked on suspicion of annoying or molesting a minor and for committing a lewd or lascivious act with a child under 14.
NBC4 LA first reported deputies responded around 5 p.m. Tuesday to a call near Hayvenhurst Avenue and SaMo Blvd after two girls told them officers a strange man assaulted one of them.
Sources told NBC4 that Mercado touched one of the girls inappropriately. Turns out this guy has at one prior arrest (that we know of) for a similar crime that later reduced to a lesser charge. No details are available as to why or how that occurred.
As of this morning Mercado was being held on $100,000 bail.
So far, there have been no further details released about the ongoing investigation.
