WTF: Another Attack in WeHo With a Deadly Weapon In Broad Daylight

Like seriously – WTF is going on around here? Another robbery attempt in WeHo – in broad daylight, one that easily could have turned deadly.

The only good thing about this story is the man who tried to rob a couple simply walking down the street on a Wednesday afternoon picked the wrong person to mess with and got taken down hard by the victim. We should all be so lucky.

Deputies were called just before 1 p.m. to the 900 block of North Sweetzer Avenue after reports of a fight in the street.  Witnesses said an armed man in a dark sedan pulled up fast, jumped out with a gun, and demanded the victim’s Rolex.  What he didn’t know is that the person he tried to rob used to be a professional fighter.

The victim who did not want to be identified, told NBC4 LA’s Alex Rozier, who first reported the story, “I was able to disarm and take the gun from him. I had him pinned down. He was trying to get up. No way, we’re not letting him go.”

Neighbor Patrick McCloskey, who was working from home, told KTLA he heard the chaos before seeing the fight break out. “I heard a woman screaming and ran to the door,” he said. “Then I heard her yell, ‘Get the gun!’ and realized something serious was happening.”

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the retired fighter tackled the gunman, took control of the weapon, and held him down until deputies arrived. The victim’s girlfriend managed to toss the gun over a nearby fence during the struggle.

“The gun was loaded,” McCloskey said. “I was told you could see a bullet in the chamber.”

Another man briefly stepped out of the getaway car but jumped back in and sped off before deputies arrived. The suspect left behind was arrested on the spot.

Neighbors said the whole thing lasted less than a minute. “At one point, the guy’s arm got dislocated, and he just held him down,” McCloskey said.

Deputies recovered the firearm at the scene and are still looking for the second suspect.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station at (310) 855-8850 or, to remain anonymous, reach out to Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS (8477) or visit lacrimestoppers.org.

This attack comes on the heels of a similar one less than two weeks ago. The victim in that attack told NBCLA two of the men had guns while the other had a crowbar.

Why aren’t our city officials getting on television and holding public meetings with head of the sheriffs department Robert Luna. It should be top priority. Crazy we can’t walk down the streets in broad daylight without fear of armed gunman. Sheriffs should be starting foot patrols and car patrols in the neighborhood. Ambassadors just don’t cut it for something like this. Can’t remember the llast time I saw the police driving our streets other than screaming down Santa Monica Blvd. after the fact. WEHO online should do further investigative reporting. It’s great we know about these incidents but why not… Read more »

For 30 years, I boasted that I’d often walk home drunk from the Sunset Strip in the wee hours o’ the morning and never felt unsafe in WeHo. But today, I wouldn’t make that walk even if I had Conor McGgregor as a bodyguard on one side and Mike Tyson on the other and we were in a tank covered in barbed wire and protected by laser beams.

I didn’t see any mention of our “Bubble Bees” springing into action.

They do not have radios. Ask city, Allied and their managers why Security Ambassadors do not have radios. At the same time, this is a police job, not a security.

Blame soft on crime progressive wacko leaders. They care more about criminals than they about law abiding citizens. It’s just a revolving door for the bad guys…and they know it. They got nothing to lose…we’re just sitting (or walking) ducks. Vote. Them. Out.

Glad to hear this was stopped and someone actually arrested for a change. And thank you Lindsey Horvarth “Headline Seeker in Chief” for helping to defund our police department. Any comments Lindsey?
