A man was hit by an Uber driver Thursday night at Santa Monica Boulevard and Martel. He told WEHOonline he was already in the crosswalk, walking west, when a car turned left onto Martel and hit him. It was raining, and he said the driver came in fast and did not seem to see him.
He didn’t think he needed to go to the hospital, but was not yet sure what his injuries might be. Emergency crews were still there when we arrived, and everyone was waiting for Sheriff’s deputies to take a report.
The driver, in a Volvo XC90, didn’t speak to us.

A friend of the pedestrian showed up after getting a call. He had been at the Poinsettia dog park and ran over. He lives near that corner and sees drivers rush that left turn at Martel all the time. He said he has almost been hit in that same crosswalk more than once.
This comes only a few weeks after another person was hit in the crosswalk by Trader Joe’s, about two blocks east.
Another driver entitled day in West Hollywood. If West Hollywood enforced traffic laws and speed limit laws the same way they enforce parking ordinances we would be better off. Unfortunately, wreaks, injuries and deaths will continue to happen in driver entitled Weho. Pathetic.
Oh for the love of god, get a grip. If you had your way there would be a cop at every intersection of WEHO 24 hours a day. At least try to make some sense.
A cop at every intersection in WeHo 24 hours a day would be awesome and show you what it was like to live in WeHo just a few short years ago, when it was safe, beautiful, fun, clean, virtually crime-free, uber-gay-friendly, and had the most gorgeous men in the world residing in WeHo. Unlike the dangerous woke-joke it has become.
I lived and worked in weho for 30 years. I have no idea what you are talking about???? I was gay bashed twice in the 90’s and robbed at gun point in the early oughts.
WEHO has always had a less than savory side to it. This was way before the term “woke” became a household word for the hateful right.
Maybe you should move to Idaho with your like minded Nazis and you’d feel more at home. Your comment was so ridiculous.
💯%
Huh? WTF. I’m NOT for the new Fountain Av Plan, but people should drive with respect and courtesy and follow speed limits and laws. You don’t make sense. You are the problem obviously.
I’ve been struck while crossing legally at stop sign by a driver who hit and ran, and wrote about it years ago in an op-ed piece for the L.A Times. So I commiserate. At the same time, if we pedestrians are going to expect drivers to follow the rules for the public’s safety, we need to do the same. Jaywalking against red lights or outside crosswalks or other designated pedestrian areas is almost routine in WeHo, especially in the Rainbow District. Respect for public safety cuts both ways. We’re all in this together.
😂
Seriously bros, WTF does the fountain ave plan have to do with my comment? You’re 🦇💩 crazy
