Lou Adler, the legendary music producer and co-owner and founder of the Roxy Theatre, is among the 2013 inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
During his career, Adler has worked as a songwriter, produced the Monterey International Pop Festival and the 1975 “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” and directed Cheech and Chong’s “Up In Smoke.” He is founder of Dunhill Records and Ode Records. Adler has received Grammy awards for Record of the Year and Album of the Year for Carole King’s “Tapestry.” Adler also is celebrated for his role in promoting the Sunset Strip, that mile and a half stretch of Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood that is home to iconic and innovative music venues.
Other 2013 inductees are Randy Newman, Public Enemy, Rush, Heart, Quincy Jones, Donna Summer and Albert King. According to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, the criteria considered in choosing members include the influence and significance of the artists’ contributions to the development and perpetuation of rock and roll. The Foundation’s nominating committee selects nominees for induction each year who are voted on by more than 600 artists, historians and members of the music industry. The 2013 ceremony will take place April 18 in Los Angeles.
