INSTALL: WeHo is soliciting submissions for its second annual art installation on June 2. The event, which showcases the area’s best LGBT artists, is part of the City of West Hollywood’s annual One City One Pride arts festival.
It features installations in shipping pods and U-Hauls that appear overnight, forming a one-day pop-up queer arts village in the El Tovar parking lot near the West Hollywood Library and performances on a flatbed truck curated by Apt 3F.
Sponsors of INSTALL: WeHo include the City of West Hollywood, ONE National Gay & Lesbian Archives, Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions, Pasadena Arts Council, the California LGBT Arts Alliance and Frontiers, the Southern California gay magazine.
The theme of this year’s installation is “Good Queer” — what does it mean to be a good queer? Does it mean challenging traditional definitions of homosexuality and heterosexuality? How does it affect our private and public lives and perceptions? How do the actions of performance and object-making intersect with the actions of challenging and embracing within this queer discourse?
Exhibitors will be selected by a jury that includes INSTALL: WeHo founders Mark Cramer and Laura Watts; David Frantz, curator of ONE National Gay and Lesbian Archives; Rebecca Ansert, founder and principal of Green Public Art Consultancy, and Carol Stakenas, executive director of Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions.
The criteria for selection and deadlines for the process are available online at installweho.com and at facebook.com/installweho
