West Hollywood’s homeless population is declining, according to a report given at Tuesday’s Human Services Commission.
Twenty-five volunteers and seven sheriff’s deputies helped count 46 homeless individuals living in WeHo as part of the Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count that is conducted every two years by the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority. All but one of the individuals was an adult.
In 2011, the count was 57, and 59 in 2009.
In WeHo, People Assisting The Homeless (PATH) is one of few service providers that helps the homeless find housing. According to PATH’s chief development and communications officer James Sidell, PATH remains at capacity, helping about 4,000 people each year at its multi-service center.
The Greater West Hollywood Food Coalition, a group that feeds the homeless, has seen an increase in clients, according to lead volunteer Ted Landreth.
