Dust off those pom poms, the West Hollywood Cheerleaders might need you.
The cheerleaders are holding spring tryouts on Wednesday, Feb. 27 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the West Hollywood Gateway (7100 Santa Monica Blvd. at La Brea).
The West Hollywood Cheerleaders, founded in 1986, are an enthusiastic organization of volunteers dedicated to addressing social stereotypes and ending the stigma surrounding HIV and AIDS. Their appearances and public performances have included AIDS Walk, LA Pride, Best in Drag and Legendary Bingo.
In 1998 the group was given an official commendation from the City of West Hollywood as the “Ambassadors of Goodwill and Friendship.”
Money raised by the cheerleaders goes to increase HIV/AIDS awareness in the LGBT community, including donations to The Life Group LA, Aid for AIDS, AIDS Assistance Program and AIDS Service Center.
New members will be asked to purchase their uniform, pom poms and shoes for about $300. Participation is a one-year commitment.
