LA Jock Cancels WeHo Council Debate

LA Jock Hosts West Hollywood Council debateNir Zilberman, owner of LA Jock, has cancelled a proposed debate at his store on Sunday among candidates in the March 5 election for West Hollywood City Council. Zilberman cancelled because few candidates agreed to appear. To date, there have been three debates among candidates for the two council seats. One held last month by a group of neighborhood associations attracted all nine contenders. Two others — one at West Hollywood College Preparatory School and another staged by the Apartment Association of Greater Los Angeles — were only attended by challengers. The West Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which traditionally hosts a council candidate debate, has not done so this year.

I wonder if the owner of LA Jock was intimidated into canceling the debate. Maybe Chris Landavazo could find out. There were some pretty nasty things going on in the election.

even the one debate that the incumbents attended didn’t feel like a real debate. everyone got their soundbites in, that’s all. the community deserves better.

It was the same in 2009. There would not have been any debates if the neighborhood groups didn’t put one together.

Well, only desperate candidates need to get more air time. Facts are it was an undignified forum next to jockstraps. Steve you should be thankful that your last photo op is not next to underwear.

Once Nir called it a “debate” the incumbents were sure to cancel. Once again John Duran and Jeff Prang have gone out of their way to avoid public forums. Even John Heilman and Abbe Land were more accesible and participated in two well attended debates in 2011. Guess these guys can’t stand the heat in the kitchen.

just a publicity stunt anyway.. wehoville is the only place this was advertised.. they must be friends with the owner.

This is the first time I’m hearing of a 3rd debate. Apartment Association of Greater Los Angeles? Perhaps that was a debate with candidates for some LA office. Think you’d better check your facts.

The Apartment Association of Greater Los Angeles hosted its Feb. 20 WEHO Chapter meeting as a city council candidate forum at Plummer Park Community Center. No media were invited.
