The CalArts/Experience Music Project Pop Conference brings together academics, critics, performers and dedicated fans for this conference, a kick-off for EMP L.A.’s project to recognize the importance of location, neighborhood and community in Los Angeles. The event will feature Michelle Carr, co-founder of Jabberjaw, once a famous music venue on Pico Boulevard in Los Angeles, and other writers, performers and musicians active in the independent music scene of the 90s. There also will be music performances, DJ sets and a slideshow. The council chamber is at 625 N. San Vicente Blvd. north of Melrose. Admission is free.
