Linkin Park, the Grammy Award-winning and multi-platinum California rock band, will headline the 2013 Sunset Strip Music Festival with a performance on Saturday, Aug. 3, according to an announcement from event organizers Wednesday.

“We are happy to welcome Linkin Park back to The Sunset Strip as headliners at this year’s festival,” said festival Executive Director Todd Steadman. “The band started their career on The Strip at The Roxy. It is fitting to see them perform on the boulevard’s largest stage, outdoors with thousands of fans.”

The Sunset Strip Music Festival, now in its sixth year, is a premier concert along Sunset Boulevard between Doheny Drive and San Vicente Boulevard, and includes two outdoor stages, beer gardens, an artist autograph tent, an outdoor VIP rooftop lounge, silent disco, VIP Lounge at On The Rox, food trucks and interactive experiences.

Additional performances and the 2013 “festival honoree” will be announced in the coming weeks. Tickets, $79 to $145, also went on sale Wednesday, and can be purchased online.

“We started our career playing clubs on The Strip,” said lead vocalist Chester Bennington. “It’s a thrill to be back where it all began, headlining this festival in our hometown.”

It will be Linkin Park’s only North American performance for the remainder of 2013, and marks the band’s first performance in Los Angeles since May 2012, when they performed a benefit show at the House of Blues Sunset Strip.

The band’s current single, “Castle of Glass,” the third single from their latest album “Living Things,” has just entered the Top 30 on the alternative radio chart. Since Linkin Park debuted on the Billboard 200 in 2000, no other artist has had more Top 10 singles on the alternative chart or achieved more No. 1 albums this century. Linkin Park is also the biggest band on Facebook with more than 52 million fans.

A portion of ticket sales will benefit Music For Relief, the nonprofit organization Linkin Park founded to support disaster relief.

Previous festival performers have included Ozzy Osbourne, Motley Crue, The Smashing Pumpkins, The Offspring, Marilyn Manson, Steve Aoki, Slash featuring Fergie, Public Enemy, Bad Religion, Common, Bush, LMFAO, Kid Cudi, Neon Trees, Matt & Kim, Cobra Starship, Shiny Toy Guns, The Head Cat, Andy Grammer, Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger of The Doors, She Wants Revenge, Awolnation and Imagine Dragons, among others. Highlights from the past five years, including the SSMF 2012 street festival, which drew 15,000 music fans from Southern California and beyond, can be seen online.
