West Hollywood has new private security “ambassadors” patrolling Santa Monica Boulevard.
At the beginning of June, a bike patrol team from Block by Block, a company that provides security, cleaning and customer service personnel for Business Improvement Districts, began patrolling between Doheny Drive and La Brea Avenue along Santa Monica Boulevard. The increased security, along with additional sheriff’s patrol, is being funded by the extra revenue expected to be generated from the increased parking meter hours set to take effect in early September.
Block by Block is also contracted by the Sunset Strip Business Association and serves three other programs in the Los Angeles area. The company chosen after a vetting process that included city staff members, West Hollywood Sheriff’s personnel, a representative from the business community and members of the Public Safety Commission.
Ambassadors assist the sheriff’s department with identifying and addressing a wide variety of quality-of-life issues. They collaborate with local businesses, residents and visitors to promote neighborhood livability. The security ambassadors also provide customer service, including giving directions, business recommendations and parking choices to West Hollywood residents and visitors.
