Stories Books & Cafe hosts a event at 7:30 p.m. curated by Hank Henderson, known for his Homo-Centric Historical Poetry Jam and featuring music by Dudley Saunders and a reading by David Groff of his poetry. Saunders, who lives in Los Angeles, started his career as a performance artist. He has written four performance pieces, the best known of which are “Birdbones,” which premiered at The Kitchen in New York, and “Death blues,” which New York Press selected as “Best Musical of the Year.” His latest project is “In These Boxes,” which combines live music with video art projections. His latest CD, “Monsters,” is available at Bandcamp. Groff, a New Yorker who is a frequent visitor to LA, is a literary scout, poet, writer and teacher. His book of poems, “Clay, “was chosen as winner of the Louise Bogan Award for Artistic Merit and Excellence and was published in 2013 by Trio House Press. His previous collection, “Theory of Devolution,” published in 2002 by the University of Illinois Press, was selected by Mark Doty for the National Poetry Series. With Jim Elledge he co-edited “Who’s Yer Daddy?: Gay Writers Celebrate Their Mentors and Forerunners,” from the University of Wisconsin Press.
