If not for the quick reaction of a West Hollywood Sheriff’s deputy, a motorcyclist probably would have lost his leg — if not his life – after crashing into a limo last week.
In the early morning hours of July 20, a limousine driver made a left turn in front of the motorcyclist, who was traveling eastbound on Sunset Boulevard at the intersection of La Cienega Boulevard.
When Deputy Gardner arrived at the seen of the accident, she immediately started giving first aid to the man, whose leg was severed.
After applying first aid, Gardner applied a tourniquet to the motorcyclist’s leg. According to medical personnel, by applying the tourniquet Gardner most likely saved the motorcyclist’s leg and life.
Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics arrived shortly thereafter and continued first aid. The motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital and was immediately taken into surgery in an effort to save his leg.
As of Wednesday, July 24, the motorcyclist’s leg was reattached.
