An upcoming exhibit of Beatles photos at West Hollywood’s new Leica Gallery, 8783 Beverly Blvd. at Robertson, will include photos that have never been printed or exhibited as well as some well-known images of the band.
The exhibit, which opens Sept. 7, will feature photography by German photographer Astrid Kirchherr, who was once engaged to original Beatles bassist Stuart Sutcliffe.
Kirchherr befriended the Beatles after watching the then-unknown band perform at a club in Germany in 1960.
“It was like a merry-go-round in my head. They looked absolutely astonishing … My whole life changed in a couple of minutes. All I wanted was to be with them and to know them,” Kirchherr said, according to a Leica Gallery press release.
Kirchherr spent a lot of time with the band, often with a camera in hand, when the future rock legends were on the verge of becoming famous.
The exhibit includes “a lot of undiscovered work,” said Leica Gallery manager Annie Seaton. “There’s some really intimate, private moments.”
The exhibition will include: photos from a train ride during the filming of a Hard Days Night in 1964, pictures from the Hugo Hasse Fun Fair in Hamburg in 1960 and photos of Beatles fans.
The opening reception will take place on Saturday, Sept. 7 from 6-8 p.m. The exhibit will run through Oct. 19. Admission to the gallery is free.
