New details are slowly emerging on what will be replacing Asia de Cuba, the Asian and Cuban cuisine restaurant inside the Mondrian hotel.
In an interview with the LA Times, Brian Malarkey, the winning chef-mentor from the last season of ABC’s “The Taste,” confirmed that he will indeed be opening up a restaurant in Asia de Cuba’s old spot, as previously rumored.
According to the same report, he’ll also be doing it on New Year’s Eve, one of the busiest dining nights of the year.
While previous rumors from Eater LA were that Malarkey would be opening a Herringbone in WeHo, the former “Top Chef” competitor told the Times he hasn’t yet decided what the restaurant at the Mondrian will be like.
Here’s a tidbit that fashion-conscious WeHo will appreciate, Malarkey has named each of his restaurants after clothing material: Searsucker in Scottsdale, Austin, Del Mark and San Diego; Gabardine in Point Loma and Herringbone in La Jolla.
As a judge/mentor on ABC’s “The Taste,” Malarkey coached his contestant Khristianne Uy, a private chef in West Hollywood, to the title last season.
