“Dear Parking Enforcement” — A Laugh-Provoking Take On a WeHo Woe

Parking fees and fines: A tool for promoting more efficient use of limited public parking spaces? Or a greedy attempt by local government to fill its coffers? That pretty much sums up the most opposite points of view about this contentious West Hollywood subject.

But whatever stand one might take (and there certainly are positions in the middle) it is hard not to get a kick out of “Dear Parking Enforcement.” The video was created this summer by Brad Etter and Jourdan Rystrom, a Midwestern videography and songwriting duo who now live in Hollywood, to address what they describe as “the obscene parking ticket industry in Los Angeles.” While it is LA-focused, Rystrom recently emailed WEHOville to suggest it is relevant to West Hollywood as well.

So after you’ve gnashed your teeth and screamed the f-word about that ticket on your windshield in WeHo, take a break and check out this video. Even if, on top of your $58 parking ticket, you’re facing a nearly $200 tow and retrieval charge from Hollywood Tow (the city vendor that is a reliable contributor to the campaigns of WeHo City Council incumbents), we guarantee you’ll get a least a little chuckle. Warning, if you’re at the office you might want to put on headphones to avoid offending officemates with tender ears.

Etter and Rystrom describe their BowJour production group as “a new media movement combining humor, inspiration and style through …high quality videos.” On IndieGoGo.com, a crowd funding site for creative projects where they have launched a fundraising campaign, they say: “Our goal, first and foremost, is to initiate a movement of truth. We draw social and pop culture truths to awareness by creating high quality video content centering around them … From episodic content to epic monthly music videos, we have a ton of intelligent content waiting to come to life.”

You gotta admit that when the CC Gang gets a wild hair it goes wild. Parking. The Little Rascals Do “Parking” – let’s have show! Is any of this going to Broadway? If I had one single collaborator I could write it in about a week.

WeHo AND L.A. have been getting away with this and something needs to happen to stop it. These poor kids can’t afford the tickets. STOP building more places for people to live with NO additional places for FREE neighborhood parking!

This from the city of WeHo that merrily went about REMOVING ALL PARKING METERS along San Vicente, and there is a plan afoot to remove more spaces along Melrose. No wonder there aren’t enough spaces. It’s about revenue stream, nothing more. The notion that raising the fees and extending the hours will “free-up spaces” is ludicrous. People will simply feed the meter every two hours. Get a spot and stay in it. Why would you move the car and look for another spot? It sounds like a ploy to push people into the city owned parking $tructure$…they will get it… Read more »

By the rivers of Revenue We parked our car And then we wept when we remembered small change. Oh from the wicked, carry us away from an additional way to pay Required from us, today in this land of Mammon How tell why must pay so much to park Or our cars they will tow away In this strange land? No longer Zion. So let the words of our mouth And the meditations of our hearts Steal from our pockets not and return us to what once was Zion. By the rivers of Revenue We drove on by And as… Read more »

I use a copywritten spiritual below with altered words of my own to express my own feelings about WeHo and her whorish parking meters.
