Installed Tuesday night, a public art chalkboard posing the question “Before I die I want to ____” has already filled up with responses in front of the upcoming DBA nightclub, formerly Voyeur.
Before I Die got its start in New Orleans when a community member, grieving over the loss of someone close, painted the side of an abandoned house with chalkboard paint and stenciled it with a grid of the sentence “Before I die I want to _____.” Since then the wall has popped up in cities across the U.S.
Bowls of chalk invite those passing by to provide their own responses. Every Sunday morning, the chalkboard will be wiped clean.
At 7969 Santa Monica Blvd. near Crescent Heights, the chalkboard wraps around a wall covering the front of the former Voyeur nightclub, currently under construction. Cardiff Giant is working on a new concept it’s calling DBA (Doing Business As), which is scheduled to open in November.
Below, check out WEHOville’s favorite responses, so far, to “Before I Die.”
