The West Hollywood Library will offer a free weekly workshop for community members who want to learn web-programming skills starting Oct. 23.

The workshops, running Wednesdays 5 to 7 p.m. at 625 N. San Vicente Blvd. near Santa Monica, will include basic instruction on popular web programming languages such as HTML/CSS, Javascript, PHP/SQL, Python, Perl and Ruby.

Participants will be guided to resources such as online courses at Codecademy, W3schools.com and Learn4Life.

“From personal experience, I know that learning to program can be a daunting and solitary experience,” said librarian Oleg Kagan, who is organizing the workshops, “so I think having like-minded people around to encourage each other will do a lot to combat that initial fear and uncertainty.”

The workshops are aimed at job-seekers looking to add programming skills, but open to all. Attendees are asked to come with basic computer skills and laptops.
