Here Lounge, the gay bar on Robertson Boulevard that Time Out magazine once said attracted WeHo’s “prettiest and cruisiest guys,” will close Dec. 3 for a month for renovations.
Here owner Pat Rogers said he anticipates reopening on Jan. 2, although the exact date isn’t certain. Rogers said the renovations include installing retractable awnings over the lounge’s outdoor patio, which will reduce the chill on winter nights for a gay crowd that likes to mingle with shirts off. He also is installing more LED lighting. The City of West Hollywood is requiring Rogers to renovate the alley along the side of Here, which he is doing by adding plants and other amenities.
Here, at 696 N. Robertson just south of Santa Monica, opened in 2001, replacing a club called the Firehouse, which had closed a year and a half earlier. It features two large rectangular lounges and a large patio, making it a favorite spot for those who like to converse, something not always possible in dance-oriented clubs.
Here is open Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. It is one of the few places in the predominately gay male district in west end of West Hollywood that offers a night for lesbians. That event, called “Truck Stop,” is on Fridays. DJ Billy Francesca performs every Sunday evening.
