The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has announced that it will be conducting checkpoints in West Hollywood on Dec. 13 to identify motorists driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs or without a drivers license.

The West Hollywood checkpoints, at locations not announced, are part of six that the Sheriff’s Department will conduct in Los Angeles County communities in December. The checkpoint will be in place from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. The department announces the checkpoints as part of its “drive sober and choose your ride home” campaign.

A department checkpoint in Carson last Wednesday resulted in 22 arrests. Of 1,188 vehicles that moved through the checkpoint, 1006 drivers were checked. Two drivers and one bicyclist were arrested under suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and two drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of marijuana. Deputies arrested two drivers for illegal possession of narcotics, eight for driving with a suspended or revoked license, six for driving without a license, and one for driving a vehicle without an ignition interlock device. Such a device, which measures alcohol on one’s breath before permitting a car to start, can be required by a court or the Department of Motor Vehicles of someone convicted of driving under the influence.

Shouldn’t DUI Checkpoints, Times and Locations be unannounced? What’s the point if you announce a specific date?
