West Hollywood beer barThere are reasons to recognize West Hollywood other than Go Go Appreciation Day and the city ban on the retail sale of fur apparel. For one thing, there’s Surly Goat, which Draft magazine, the bi-monthly bible for beer buffs, has selected as one of the top 100 beer bars in the United States.

Surly Goat, at 7929 Santa Monica Blvd. near North Hayworth, is “practically unmarked,” Draft says. But, it notes “this cool West Hollywood bar gets bustling (read: really loud), but if you’re serious about craft beer you’ll find an even more boisterous brew on the 27 taps.”

Surly Goat was opened in February 2010 by Ryan Sweeney and Brandon Bradford, co-owners of Verdugo Bar, 3408 Verdugo Rd., in Los Angeles, in partnership with Alen Aivaian and Adolfo Suaya of Osaka and BoHo. Surly Goat also was named to the Draft 100 list in 2011 and 2012.
