David Cooley
David Cooley is a major influence in gay nightlife for having opened The Abbey decades ago. That former coffee shop now is one of the most famous gay-oriented bars and restaurants in America. Cooley is now back in the spotlight with his plan to open Cooley’s bar and restaurant on an underused block of Santa Monica Boulevard near Robertson, which some say will transform the area known as Boystown for better, or worse.

Be careful what you wish for, because this title may be something to be reviled and not revered. Like many, I first read this article without paying attention to the “caveat” for better or worse and I allowed my emotions to prevail over the pragmatism to which I aspire and for or this and my subsequent “knee jerk reaction”, I owe Hank Scott an apology.
