[dropcap]A. [/dropcap]The City of West Hollywood has an earthquake preparedness manual available online.  Also, the Southern California Earthquake Center offers a seven-step guide to preparing for a quake. The steps it suggests are as follows:

Step 1: Identify hazards and secure moveable items

Step 2: Create a disaster plan and decide how you will communicate in an emergency.

Step 3: Organize disaster supplies in convenient locations.

Step 4: Minimize financial hardship by organizing important documents, strengthening your property, and considering insurance.

To Survive and Recover

Step 5: Drop to your hands and knees to prevent falling, cover your head and neck and hold on when the earth shakes.

Step 6: Leave your building if necessary, helping the injured around you, to prevent further injuries or damage from a crumbling wall.

Step 7: Get back to daily life as soon as you can by reconnecting with others, repairing damage, and rebuilding community.
