Actress and prominent activist Jane Fonda (9 to 5) will once again participate in West Hollywood’s “One Billion Rising for Justice” event on Valentine’s Day. Dylan McDermott (The Practice) will also take part in the event, which is part of a worldwide campaign to raise awareness about violence against women and girls. The city calls the event “a call to action to rise, release, dance and demand justice!”
The West Hollywood event will take place on Friday at 10 a.m. at the Sal Guarriello Veterans’ Memorial, located at the intersection of Holloway Drive and Santa Monica Boulevard.
“I hope that you will join me … as we rise and dance for justice for the 1 billion women who are victims of violence and rape,” said Mayor Abbe Land via a city news release. “Rise with us to show the world that West Hollywood respects the rights and dignity of every woman and girl to stand for justice.”
Representatives from V-Day and One Billion Rising will speak, as will members of the City Council. The event will also feature a musical performance by Lili Hadyn, and Flash Mob America will lead the crowd in a performance of the official campaign dance, “Break the Chain,” choreographed by Debbie Allen.
Fonda also attended WeHo’s One Billion Rising event in 2013, when she was joined by Anne Hathaway and Marisa Tomei; more photos from the 2013 event are available on Flikr.
