Lambda Literary Names Finalists for LGBT Book Awards

lambda literary foundation awardThe Lambda Literary Foundation today announced finalists in categories ranging from gay poetry to lesbian erotica to LGBT graphic novels for the 26th annual Lambda Literary Awards.

The Los Angeles-based organization, whose mission is to “nurture, celebrate and preserve” LGBT literature, received 746 submissions from 352 publishers for this year’s awards, known as Lammys. Submissions came from established publishers, academic presses, new LGBT-focused publishers and self-published authors.

“Today is a day to celebrate the richness of our literature and to give hearty congratulations to our outstanding shortlisted authors and their publishers,” said LLF Executive Director Tony Valenzuela. “The deep commitment to advance our community’s literature by our highly qualified volunteer judges who read and deliberate on the submitted books – and often anguish over the selection of finalists – make the Lammys possible.”

Nearly 200 works in 24 categories were chosen by more than 90 literary professionals, including booksellers, book reviewers, librarians, writers and previous Lammy winners and finalists.

“This is our fifth straight year of record-breaking Lambda Literary Award submissions,” said LLF Board President S. Chris Shirley. “We’re especially excited to add an LGBT Graphic Novel category to accommodate their explosive growth over the past few years and to recognize the extraordinary talent behind them.”

Winners will be announced during a ceremony on June 2 at the Great Hall at Cooper Union in New York City. More information and ticket purchasing is available online. Tickets are available during March for $100 for the ceremony and $200 for the ceremony and a party after. Prices will increase by $25 beginning April 1. Tickets can be purchased online.
