Cesar Chavez’s birthday is celebrated as a state holiday in California. Although Cesar Chavez Day is not a federal holiday, in 2011, President Barack Obama issued a Presidential proclamation for the day — he called upon “all Americans to observe this day with appropriate service, community, and educational programs to honor Cesar Chavez’s enduring legacy.” Chavez, who died in 1993, was a Mexican-American farm worker, labor leader and civil rights activist. He partnered with Dolores Huerta to found the National Farm Workers Association (later the United Farm Workers union).
On Monday all parking regulations will be in effect throughout West Hollywood, as usual. This includes parking meter operations, time limits in parking spaces and peak-hour towing restrictions. Visitor parking permits will be available in the parking office at Kings Road Municipal Parking Garage at 8383 Santa Monica Blvd. at Kings, from 6 a.m. to 12 a.m.

How about honoring Caesar Chavez with a ceremony that all city employees participate in, in the afternoon of their work day, instead of using tax money to give all city employees yet another paid holiday, that most other Southern Californians don’t get?
