An Indian crown prince, a Mormon family and Southern California business leaders are among those who will be honored by the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles at its third annual Voice Awards on May 3.
“The Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles is on a mission to change hearts and minds around the world through the power of music,” said Chris Verdugo, GMCLA’s executive director. “The funds we raise through the Voice Awards will … power a range of programs including the Alive Music Project and the It Gets Better tour. These projects address bullying in schools across America by encouraging diversity and acceptance through the performing arts.”
The honorees include Manvendra Singh Gohil, crown prince in the royal family of the former princely state of Rajpipla in India. Manvendra is the first Indian royal to have revealed that he is gay. He has been active in organizations focused on gay mens’ health. Others who will be honored are:
- Brian Pendleton, founder and CEO of CauseForce and Chad Goldman, its vice president of marketing. CauseForce helps non-profit organizations raise money.
- Uprising of Love, a coalition raising international awareness about the violence faced by the worldwide LGBT community being, which will be represented by co-founder Bruce Cohen and Melissa Etheridge, and
- The Montgomerys, subjects of the documentary “Families Are Forever,” which examines a Mormon family’s journey to accept their gay son.
The Voice Awards ceremony will be held at the Globe Theatre on the back lot of Universal Studios, 100 Universal City Plaza, Universal City. It will include performances by LiV, the R&B singer; the cast of the new musical “Inappropriate,” and the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles. There also will be a special auction.
Individual tickets fare $300; VIP tickets are $400 and include a private reception on May 2 with the Manvendra Singh Gohil and other honorees. Table sponsor packages are also available. Tickets can be purchased online.
