SOUNDING
Sounding, also known as “cock stuffing,” is the practice of inserting a surgical steel rod into your urethra, the channel in your penis through which you urinate. It’s important to use a lubricant to reduce the chance of tearing the inside of the urethra during sounding. There is no real risk to transmitting a sexual disease through sounding. But if the device isn’t really clean, it can introduce bacteria into a sensitive part of your body. Some men use glass thermometers, a risky practice if the thermometer breaks. And some men use saliva as a lubricant, which might contain bacteria that can cause an infection.

HIV cannot always be isolated in urine, and if it is, HIV concentrations are too small to pose a threat of infection. The HIV risk from drinking urine is negligible. Some conditions contribute to blood being present in a person’s urine, which would contribute to a risk of HIV transmission if your partner was infected. Urine is fine on the outside of intact skin.
