PCC caused a kerfuffle, at least in the gay world, when it rescinded the invitation to the gay Oscar-winning screenwriter because it learned a video was floating around showing Black having unprotected sex with his then-boyfriend. Black is a board member of the American Foundation for Equal Rights, which lobbied to overturn Prop. 8, which banned same-sex marriages in California. He also wrote “8,” a reenactment of the federal trial resulted in Prop 8 being overturned. Black also is a 1994 graduate of PCC who also earned a degree in 1996 from UCLA.
PCC then turned around and invited Dr. Eric Walsh, Pasadena’s public health director, to speak at the commencement. It rescinded that invitation Wednesday night after Pasadena’s city manager suspended Walsh and announced an investigation in statements he made condemning homosexuality, evolution, Harry Potter and Disney.
No word yet on whether Black will accept the PCC board’s new invitation.
