Eleven Nightclub will extend its operating hours if the West Hollywood Planning Commission approves a request it has made.
Richard Grossi, the owner of Eleven, located on Santa Monica Boulevard at Larrabee, has asked the commission to extend its operating hours to 4 a.m. on Sundays and on city holidays and also allow it to keep its outdoor patio open until 4 a.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and city holidays.
City regulations now allow Eleven to be open from 8 a.m. to 2 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 4 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays. The outdoor patio, which faces Santa Monica Boulevard, can be open from 8 a.m. to 2 a.m.
The city’s Department of Community Development is recommending approval of Grossi’s request with one modification: allowing the outdoor patio to remain open only until 2 a.m. on Sundays.
In its analysis of the proposal, the Community Development Department noted that a number of nearby businesses have similar hours, with one, Mickys, authorized to remain open until 6 a.m.
It also noted that Eleven’s management has responded quickly to any complaints from neighbors about noise.
The Community Development Department will recommend the Planning Commission approve another two-year extension of development and demolition permits for a project at 1342-1346 Hayworth Ave. north of Fountain. The City Council initially approved the project six years ago and it has been granted two two-year extensions. The developer, Grovewood Properties, already has begun demolition of the six-unit building, whose rent control tenants were evicted so that it could be replaced with a four-story, 16-unit condominium building.
Finally, the Planning Commission will consider a request by the House of Blues, which is at Sunset Boulevard and Olive Drive, to reduce the number of parking spaces it is required to make available from 556 off-street spaces to 380. The Community Development Department has endorsed that request, citing a study conducted by a consultant to the House of Blues that said no more than 380 spaces were needed at three peak periods it surveyed.
However, residents on Olive Drive south of the House of Blues complain frequently to the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station and the city’s contract parking enforcement staff about illegal parking of cars and tour buses on Olive Drive.
The Planning Commission will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the City Council Chambers, 625 N. San Vicente Blvd., south of Santa Monica.
Its interesting that the city host a forum oh how to combat drug abuse yet at the same time they continue to extend the hours of the clubs. What do they think people do at 3,4,5,and 6 am and where do they think they go when these places close. They walk down the blvd to k24 or ihop screaming and yelling all the way. I live four buildings up from Santa Monica at trader joes and have been awaken many nights sometimes thinking someone is getting beaten to death at these hours. The House of Blues has been a pain in the ass since it opened. Their current CUP was a modification of the original when they changed their business plan from a dinner theater to a night club. With that change they were supposed to build additional on site parking. It’s been approx. 24 years and still no additional parking. If they don’t need 556 off street spaces why are their patrons walking down Olive Dr. towards Santa Monica Bl. discarding beer bottles and screaming at one another almost every night.
