WeHo Offers ‘Cooling Center’ to Overheated Residents

Heat-Exhaustion-2Responding to forecasts of temperatures near 100 degrees this week, West Hollywood has opened a “cooling center” at the Plummer Park Community Center’s Senior Lounge.

The cooling center will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. today through Saturday. The Community Center is located in the park at 7377 Santa Monica Blvd.

People using the cooling center are encouraged to bring books or board games to engage in quiet activities. Staff members at Plummer Park are available to direct people to the Senior Lounge.

West Hollywood provides free transportation to Plummer Park through its Cityline service. Cityline shuttle vehicles are designed for easy access by those with disabilities. The Cityline operates Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and shuttles arrive approximately every 30 minutes. Additional information and a detailed route map is available online. Route maps are also available on Cityline shuttles and at City Hall, located at 8300 Santa Monica Blvd. at Sweetzer.

In an announcement of the cooling center, the city reminded residents to take precautions to keep as cool as possible throughout the warm summer months. If possible, stay out of the sun, avoid strenuous activity, drink plenty of water and wear lightweight clothing.
