This Monday marks the Season 6 finale of RuPaul’s Drag Race. Aussie singing sensation and top three contestant, Courtney Act, is getting ready by releasing the video to her brand new single, “Mean Gays.”
Meant to poke fun at the boys in WeHo, “Mean Gays” is packed with hot boys in designer underwear, handbags, unicorns, injectable tans and protein shakes. The song, with lyrics like “They’ll take you down with just one look” and “They don’t care what you’re about, They’ll chew you up and spit you out,” was inspired by Act’s own personal struggles fitting into the LGBT community once moving to LA.
“I had a difficult time balancing my work and play lives,” she admits. “On the one hand, I loved drag and performing as Courtney. On the other hand, I felt an immense pressure to go to the gym and get the right body so I could fit in with the West Hollywood boys.”
Overall, the former Australian Idol wanted the video to be “fun and playful.” It certainly is, with cameo appearances from RPDR’s other top queens, Bianca Del Rio and Adore Delano. Says Act, “It’s packed with all the gay video essentials…So I certainly couldn’t leave out my girls.”
