A call for artists has been issued for Phase 4 of the Guitartown Project, a public art installation project on the Sunset Strip featuring 10-foot-high fiberglass guitar sculptures. Artist applications to participate will be accepted until 5 p.m. on Monday, July 7.
Each sculpture will be uniquely painted/decorated by a selected artist. Phase 4 guitars will be dedicated in August, then auctioned off for charity.
“The goal of this project is to create a unique grouping of artistically embellished fiberglass Gibson guitars that reflect the historic past of The Sunset Strip and the artists who are part of the Gibson Guitar family,” according to the application materials.
“If chosen, your guitar will be featured at one of 20 prominent sites selected for this public art installation. You and your artwork will be featured in a catalog with a headshot and bio, which will also serve as a collectible edition book on the project. You will be invited to select VIP events associated with the project and the Sunset Strip Music Festival scheduled for September 19-21, 2014. In addition, you will also be featured on the official website for the Project, play a part in creating a one-of-a-kind piece of art seen by thousands of people who visit or live near The Sunset Strip. As a participant, we will also provide you with a $150 gift certificate to use for paint and supplies.”
