Ramon Estrada, who was found beaten on a Hollywood street about a month ago succumbed to his injuries, authorities said today.
The 36-year-old man, who had suffered “blunt force trauma,” was found on July 7 near the 1100 block of North Citrus Ave., said coroner’s Chief Craig Harvey. He died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center about 5 p.m Monday, Harvey said.
Authorities withheld his name pending family notification, but ABC7 identified him as Ramon Estrada, and reported that he had last been seen leaving Gold Coast, a gay bar at 8228 Santa Monica Blvd. near La Jolla in West Hollywood to go home.
“He called at about 1:45 in the morning and said, `Can you open the door?’ It just sounded normal to me, and 20 minutes later, he was in the ambulance,” Estrada’s partner, Michael Shutt, told the television station.
“Justice needs to be paid,” he said. “I lost my boyfriend of 14 years and my partner, and my life has flipped upside down.”
The case remains under investigation, and there were no reports of arrests.
Thanks everyone. It’s taken me awhile to go back and relive the pain by reading the articles. I was his partner of 14 years and now I will be dedicating my life in order to help prevent such heinous crimes amongst our community!
Love and peace and we must all stand together!!
Oh, and when I die I pry I’m not referred to as a “bar patron”. I’m sure this guy was much more than that.
“They kill us for no reason”
Who’s “they”? Who’s “us”?
I meet Ramon In 2008 and we started working together in the hospitality industry. I was new to LA and he immediately took me under his wing, showed me the ropes and started joking with me like we new each other for years, which was very comforting. I always knew he was there to help and I looked forward to working with him on shift. It is an extreme tragedy to think that the individual(s) who did this were so compelled to go the distance and take his life. He will be missed by many and did not deserve to… Read more »
Joseph – this murder occurred in LA, not WeHo. The LA Co Sheriff’s dept has absolutely nothing to do with this. It’s the LAPD.
Jaywalking tickets have nothing to do with homophobia and indeed are totally legitimate to save lives.
Nobody’s perfect, but the local police (LA Co Sheiff’s in WeHo) probably is among the 1% least homophobic in terms of actions with those under their jurisdiction of any in the country. I’m gay, and choose to live in WeHo in part because of this.
The WeHo sheriffs department has never cared about gay people, and never will. This will remain unresolved. Meanwhile, the local cops are busy just going up and down the boulevard ignoring the homeless and the thugs and their threatening ways, and giving us tickets for jaywalking. They would love to give us tickets or put us in jail just for being gay.
Exactly, Aren’t there cameras in the area?
that’s horrible, they kill us for no reason, I am in shock, LAPD has to get it to the point, I am crying for this innocent man:(
I knew ramon from high school…nice guy …did not deserve this…I hope justice is done for his loved ones…rest in Peace buddy…
LAPD, especially The WEHO Sheriffs Depaetment, are unfortunately, fu&k!ng useless….
One month and no arrests. I hope LAPD puts as much priority in solving this murder as they did for the recent horrendous murder of the Chinese grad student at USC. My condolences to Mr. Shutt.
