The fourth series of Gibson guitar sculptures were unveiled at Hornburg Jaguar, 9176 Sunset Blvd. at Cory, on West Hollywood’s Sunset Strip on Tuesday.
The Gibson Guitartown on the Sunset Strip public art project was launched in 2010. The 10-foot, one-of-a-kind guitars were created by L.A. and nationally acclaimed artists to celebrate musicians who have influenced the Sunset Strip, according to the press release from the Sunset Strip Business Association and the Gibson Foundation. The sculptures will be auctioned off for charity early next year.
The 2014 Gibson GuitarTown collection celebrates the music of Otis Redding, Jerry Garcia, Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Elton John, Prince, Cyndi Lauper, Freddie Mercury, Janis Joplin, Jane’s Addiction, Bob Marley, Frank Zappa, Rage Against The Machine, David Bowie and Marc Bolan as well as the Viper Room’s 21st anniversary.
The guitars showcase a wide array of motifs and styles. Artists include Gail Zappa, Raphael Saadiq, Willard Snow, Kevin Llewellyn, Gino Burman-Loffredo, TJ Roe and Forrest Holt. At age 18, Holt is GuitarTown’s youngest ever artist. Visual artists were selected after an open call for submissions.
