The Los Angeles LGBT Center has become a member of the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI), the organization announced today.
Center CEO Lorri Jean will represent the organization at CGI’s Annual Meeting in New York, which begins on Sunday, according to the press release.
The Center will participate in an LGBT-themed session called “The Modern Business Imperative: LGBT Rights Around the World.” Center Chief of Staff Darrel Cummings will be on the panel along with Xiaogang Wei, a Chinese activist who founded the China AIDS Walk on the Great Wall. Wei is a graduate of the Center’s international mentoring program.
“The LGBT community includes people from every community and from every country, and wherever we are, we continue to face some degree of bigotry and discrimination,” Jean said in the press release.
“So it’s important to be represented at an annual assemblage of leaders from around the world who are discussing solutions to global problems. I’m looking forward to meeting the other CGI members, sharing lessons learned from the Center’s 45 years of experience helping to make the world a better place for LGBT people, and discussing ideas and collaborations to advance our common goals.”
CGI, established by former President Bill Clinton, “convenes global leaders to create and implement innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges,” its website says.
