The city of West Hollywood and its Disabilities Advisory Board are hosting two events next week in recognition of Disabilities Awareness Month:
- Health and Wellness event
Free health screenings, breast cancer assessments and HIV testing will be offered at a Health and Wellness event on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Plummer Park Community Center, 7377 Santa Monica Blvd at Fuller. At the event, co-sponsored by Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, there will be free screenings for blood glucose, blood pressure and total cholesterol. Free flu shots will be offered as well. - Disability Service Awards
On Wednesday at 6 p.m., West Hollywood’s 16th Annual Disability Service Awards will be held at the West Hollywood City Council Chambers/Public Meeting Room at the West Hollywood Library, 625 N. San Vicente Blvd. at El Tovar.
The Disability Service Awards, sponsored by the city’s Disabilities Advisory Board, recognize individuals, businesses, media, and nonprofit organizations that deserve special recognition for work with people living with disabilities including accessibility issues, attention to ADA requirements, or advocacy. This year’s award recipients are: Dana Miller, Lovedy Brydon Differently Abled Individual Award; Golden Choice, Business Award; NBC-4 Los Angeles, Media Award; and the Greater West Hollywood Food Coalition, Nonprofit Award. There will be a reception following the awards presentation.
Please come and get your FREE flu shot at the first ever Disability Board Health and Wellness fair. I’m to have proposed this idea to the DAB and appreciate the hard work of my fellow board members to make this an incredible event. Now we need YOU to participate and help this become a grand success and annual event!
