West Hollywood will host receptions on Saturday for two artists whose large-scale outdoor projects were installed earlier this year as part of the city’s Art on the Outside program.

A reception will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. at West Hollywood Park for Chinese artist Wang Dalong, whose “The Game,” installed in the park along San Vicente Boulevard, is a triptych of three large cast bronze sculptures of a pair of bears engaged in a game of tag with three young children. Harmony between people, as well as between the animal kingdom and humans, is the overriding theme of “The Game.”

Wang Dalong was born in Shenyang, China, in 1969 and held his first solo exhibition in 1993 at the age of 24 at the Liaoning Province Art Museum. It is said he was the youngest artist to be featured at the museum at the time. In 1995, Dalong moved to Beijing where he has been active as both a painter and sculptor.

Another reception will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. at Sal Guarriello Veterans’ Memorial for artist Shana Mabari. Her “Illumetric” is a triptych of large-scale diamond-, cube-, and rectangle-shaped sculptures. The three figures are located in the median of the 8400 block of Santa Monica Boulevard between La Cienega Boulevard and Orlando Avenue.

Constructed with colored acrylic panels, “Illumetric”’s classic geometric forms and primary colors engage spectators on a basic physiological level, with the artist seeking a balance between spirituality and logic. Mabari is a Los Angeles-based artist who explores the intersections of art, science, and technology. Sal Guarriello Veterans’ Memorial is located at the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and Holloway Drive.

West Hollywood’s Art on the Outside program brings art out into the public realm to enhance the city’s pedestrian-friendly culture. “The Game” and “Illumetric” are each expected to remain at their locations for approximately a year.
