Sheriff’s deputies are trying to locate three men who attacked a gay African-American man as he walked home from work at 2 a.m. this morning on Santa Monica Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue.

Don Brooks, 31, in an interview with CBS Channel 2, said the men yelled at him, using racist and homophobic slurs, then jumped out of their car and attacked him, hitting the back of his head. Brooks said that when he got up he was covered with blood. He was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for treatment and has been released.

The watch sergeant at the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station this morning said the three men have not been identified. Brooks was unable to provide many details about them other than that they were Hispanic. Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact deputies at (310) 855-8850.

Both disgust me but homophobic or racist comments are free speech with all else hateful in language. Crime is crime. This was horrible on its own and I hope they catch em.

I agree with both comments.

Very frightening. We learned from Christopher Landavazo during the debates that there are only 4 Sheriff’s cars in WeHo on any given night. We must have more cars patrolling our streets for a better police presence. Our residents and visitors need to feel safe and we deserve better. But I’m not suggestiong we write a blank check to the Sheriff’s Dept. either. There needs to be some stipulations attached to the extra funding.
