A new political organization has emerged to support Lindsey Horvath’s campaign for a seat on the West Hollywood City Council.
The organization is WeHo United, which describes itself as “business and neighbors united for Lindsey Horvath.” Its organizers are Owen Ward, president of Off World Entertainment, a consulting firm, and vice chair for governmental affairs for the West Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, and Douglas Stichler, former campus director for several for-profit colleges and the fiancee of Enoch Miller, who is adminstrative assistant to Genevieve Morrill, president of the West Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. Morrill told WEHOville the organization is not in any way associated with the Chamber or its political action committee.
WeHo United has yet to file a donor report with the West Hollywood City Clerk’s office. Its website is soliciting contributions. Under state law, as an independent expenditure committee it cannot coordinate its activities with those of Horvath’s campaign. Among the reasons WeHo United is supporting Horvath is that “Lindsey supports allowing the marketplace in West Hollywood to regulate itself without excessive government interference. This respects consumers’ right to choose, and allows businesses to fairly compete.”
Horvath is one of 12 candidates running for three seats on Council in the March 3 election. She is one of three candidates, including incumbent Councilmember John Heilman and Joe Guardarrama, to have received the endorsement of the Chamber of Commerce’s political action committee.
@Stephanie – eastsiders who loved their mom and pop places should remember both Lindsey Horvath and Joe Guardarrama voted in 2010 to obliterate them —
“Council member Lindsey Horvath expressed enthusiastic and uncritical support for the project”
“Joe Guardarrama said he didn’t know of a site in the city in more dire need of redevelopment than Movietown Plaza, saying, “it’s blighted… crying out for development.”
The whole community – I’m not mike Dolan but I am named mike.
@joethe plummber and the Mrs., mine is Winter Wheat and Moonhaze, a special formula of 32 and 26.
Snipe away whilst you hide behind a nom de plume. Why do you have your knickers in a twist. I, too, think Ms. Horvath supports small business and rent control.
I have offered solutions, most of which have fallen on deaf ears.
What does Cathy have to do with this? Wait…is this you Mike?
@stephanie. So what’s your point? I’m trying to tell you what I think this woman stands for and you want to argue with me. Go right ahead! I guarantee I will win (if Hank let’s this continue, which he should not). Your point actually backs-up my point about New Urbanism and why we need someone like Horvath to support these people. I’ve seen you on T.V. You don’t offer solutions, only criticisms because you don’t have the capacity to offer better ideas. If I were you, I would end this conversation with a “yes we all want to retain small… Read more »
@joetheplumber – the eastsiders loved their Trader Joe’s, the shoe repair place, their laundromat, their dry cleaners, their Indian restaurant, their Mexican restaurant, their locksmith, there small beauty shop, their tropical fish store and on and on…but they are gone and they are never coming back. Most of the mom and pop places are being obliterated over here and no one really cares. The new humongous apt buildings are too expensive for small businesses to afford and the dry cleaners were told they weren’t wanted there. Wait and see, the westsiders will ” get it” when they build that giant… Read more »
Mr. Ralston, go wash your mouth out with soap. You should not call women “chicks.” You are an embarrassment to the male species.
I follow planning policies and Horvath (listed as a small business owner) sounds very much like she embraces the motto of New Urbanists: “Revenues and resources can be shared more cooperatively among the municipality and the community to avoid destructive competition.” I think she is about small business surviving, which I think we all want. We love our favorite cafes, boutiques and stores in WeHo that are like no other place.
No amount of money will make this chick seem like anything other than a motivated and robotic climber. Say no.
I believe in the free market so much that if there were no rent control laws, the competition would create its own control of rents, and landlords would have an incentive to invest more in their properties, giving all renters a better quality and affordable product. Now that I’ve said that ………. I’m gettin’ out of town!
A few questions come to mind as I read this article. How can Horvath say she believes in a free marketplace and no regulation and at the same time says she believes in rent control? How could CES endorse Horvath that says they believe in a free marketplace with no regulation? I always thought CES was above the political nonsense but maybe not. If CES wishes to maintain the respect they have in the community I hope they will rescind their endorsement of Horvath. Horvath lost my vote. I will be voting for Lauren Meister who from what I’ve observed… Read more »
“Lindsey supports allowing the marketplace in West Hollywood to regulate itself …”?
I’m confused, I thought she was a Democrat?
And yes, her task force just recommended to severely regulate WeHo’s short term rental businesses.
This PAC must come up with a new tagline fast.
I must say that Lindsey has tenacity. She did not run and hide as others may have when she lost election. I think that speaks volumes to dedication and professionalism. On the issues, I hope she keeps an independent mind should she win, as I think certain alignments of the past may have harmed her I wish all of the candidates good luck, as it is clearly not a game for the faint of heart.
I am posting this on two stories…asking candidates to alert their campaign workers and volunteers to please stop removing the yard signs of other candidates. To me, it’s really the most obnoxious thing during campaign season. It’s also illegal but, whoever’s doing it must know that because, according to walkers, it’s being done after midnight. I was asked by a property owner to put up Lauren Meister signs on six of his properties. Now, I’m replacing them for the third time. A business owner, on the east side, had five signs on his property. They disappeared in the middle of… Read more »
