Gay techies from across Los Angeles will gather Wednesday for the inaugural meeting of “Gay Geeks.”
The “Gay Geeks” group is being organized by Joel Simkhai, creator of Grindr, the most popular mobile phone app for gay men. Grindr is headquartered on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles. Simkhai will be present for the meeting.
“It’s also been a dream of Joel’s to get a group of developers who are gay together to talk to one another about what they’re doing,” said Erin Shoji of Grindr. Through networking with one another, Shoji said, they will be able to develop new clients and possibly work together.
Wednesday night’s event will run from 7 to 9 p.m. and will be held at Revolver Video Bar, 8851 Santa Monica Blvd. at Larrabee. To date nearly 50 people have RSVP’ed for the event. Developers wanting to attend can register for the event online.
Great. Love that a guy who’s app has made it easier to access cheap sex and expensive STD’s is heralded as a hero. As a gay geek myself this app and what it represents pushes all the wrong buttons for me. Ugh.
