Rapper Kendrick Lamar Slows WeHo Traffic with ‘Spontaneous’ Street Concert

A seemingly spontaneous rave by fans of rapper Kendrick Lamar slowed down parts of Sunset Boulevard last night.

Lamar tweeted an invitation to his 4.7 million Twitter followers sometime after 8 p.m. — “9 p.m. meet me here. 8950 Sunset Blvd. 930 pm. meet me here. 8466 Melrose Ave.” At least a hundred responded, following him while he moved down Sunset on a flatbed truck filled with musicians for a live performance to celebrate the release of his “To Pimp a Butterfly.” Also on the ride was hip hop performer Ab-Soul.

As spontaneous as it appeared, the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station confirmed that Lamar actually had a permit for the event, which began at 8950 Sunset near Hilldale and ended at 8466 Melrose Ave., east of La Cienega.

I thought someone was driving around listening to rap music too loud. LOL

Not a very big turnout for such a popular rapper.

Great event, much better than the over-contrived SSMF. Perhaps we can just have flatbeds drive around for a quarter of the cost next time…
