West Hollywood residents are expected to turn out in droves Monday night for the installation of new Mayor Lindsey Horvath and Mayor Pro Tem Lauren Meister.

Horvath and Meister were both successful challengers in the March 3 election for West Hollywood City Council, which also saw the re-election of John D’Amico, who currently holds the title of mayor. Horvath will be sworn in by Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti.  Meister will be sworn in by screenwriter and director Dustin Lance Black.

The installation will take place at 6 p.m. at the City Council Chambers at 625 N. San Vicente, south of Santa Monica. Validated parking is available in the five-story parking structure behind the Council Chambers.

The Council then will take up its bimonthly agenda. At the end of the Council meeting

there will be a reception for the newly installed mayor and mayor pro tem.

In West Hollywood, which is organized under state law, the mayor is largely a ceremonial position. It rotates among Council members year after year. The position does have some clout, however, in that it gives its holder a public platform with neighborhood groups and other organizations and some media outlets.

I have high hopes for both new council members, it’s the beginning of a new era of much needed change.

Can’t wait! It feels like D’Amico has been Mayor for a decade. I believe he is “self termed out.” As he has promised to only run two terms and this is his second term.

Congrats to two deserving winners. I couldn’t be happier. Perhaps now, we can get onto business, rather than listen to the continued snarky remarks over and over again. It gets boring, and is no longer cool, or comical, but rather more childish and unprofessional. The two women have handled themselves with style and grace.
