UPDATE: Water service was restored about 6:45 p.m. Sunday, and a “slurry” compound was used to fill in the excavation, the LADWP reported. However, the compound must cure before the roadway surface can be repaired, and the street could remain closed until Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.
As many as 27 apartments and homes in West Hollywood are without water service today due to a 12-inch cast iron water main break on Formosa Avenue that caused damage to the street as well as some personal property.
The break in the 1200 block of North Formosa Avenue occurred about 4:45 a.m., said Terry Schneider of the L.A. Department of Water and Power.
There was some street damage at the location as well as some personal property damage due to flooding, according to Schneider. The water main break caused flooding in the parking garage of at least one apartment building.
Schneider said a cause of the break was not immediately known and that crews will be “working throughout the day” making repairs to the water main.
@Disco Dan
Oh yes, soon we will have dirt roads, high infant mortality rate, guerrilla militants and revert to an agricultural economy.
According to reports I saw on TV newscasts, this may be the THIRD time in recent years that this happened in this block of Formosa !!! Our national infrastructure is deteriorating as I write this (bridges, tunnels, highways, streets, etc.). We, as a nation, are some $18 TRILLION in debt. Where will the money come from to fix ALL of this? I think we are heading down the path to becoming a Third World Nation.
This is just the beginning, especially over there on the Eastside because of over 1,000 units being added to the small area putting stress on pipes laid in 1936. Good luck people. I wish you well.
The water mains are breaking because of decades of state and local budget cutbacks that have meant lack of maintenance. It’s hardly DWP’s fault (not excusing the recent reports of overspending and other nonsense, but that’s just a drop in the bucket compared to the tens if not hundreds of millions of dollars needed to repair these.
wonder how many showers this was

they look at us to pick up the slack for their waste
@Alison
couldnt agree more
or using the reservoir for 29 fish that was meant to keep us from drought
passing their failure on to us to pick up the slack
The State asks us to cut back our water usage by a large degree, but there seems to be a lot of water main breakages lately. The State should fine the DWP for all the lost water. Between the main breaks and accidents shearing off hydrants, there is a lot of wasted water. And they want us to stop flushing our toilets?
