The City of West Hollywood is hosting a lesbian feminist haunted house. Each Halloween, radical evangelical groups build “Hell Houses” performer-animated installations that showcase a gruesome retribution for the sins of fornication, abortion, suicide, occultism, and, of course, same-sex relationships.

This Halloween season, Toronto-based artists Deirdre Logue and Allyson Mitchell reclaim this hellish scenario with their sex-positive, trans-inclusive, queer lesbian feminist fear-fighting celebration KillJoy’s Kastle: A Lesbian Feminist Haunted House.

The Haunted House will take place at Plummer Park’s Long Hall, located at 7377 Santa Monica Blvd. Opening night will take place on Frida from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Thereafter the house will be open from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on the following dates:

• Saturday, October 17, 2015;
• Sunday, October 18, 2015;
• Thursday, October 22, 2015;
• Friday, October 23, 2015;
• Saturday, October 24, 2015;
• Sunday, October 25, 2015;
• Wednesday, October 28, 2015;
• Thursday, October 29, 2015; and
• Friday, October 30, 2015.

This project is organized by the ONE National Gay & Lesbian Archives and funded in part through a grant from the City of West Hollywood through its Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission.
Admission is free and open to the public.
More information is available online. http://one.usc.edu/killjoys-kastle or www.weho.org/arts. The event also has a Facebook page.

“Hell House” was done by “Born Again” Christians? I thought it was a parody brought to us by members of the S&M community.

Having been to see the amazing Killjoy’s Castle last night, I can assure you that is clearly a LESBIAN FEMINIST haunted house….if you left “Lesbian” out of the title you’d get rather confused in there.

Alison, that is a pretty scary comment right there. Straights are marginalized…by the gays?! Uhm, have you been living under a rock for the past decades??? We’ve progressed as a society but LGBT peeps still get murdered in a lot of other countries, still get discriminated in a lot of other states, bullied in schools. How dare you make such a stupid comment.
I’d suggest then you might have to live somewhere else if you can’t take a little joke on Halloween. And take ‘luca’ and ‘Jennifer’ with you.

It surprises us that Jennifer’s nasty comment had been approved.

ALISON….You can’t marginalize the majority. Have you had your coffee yet? If not, have a double shot of espresso and get that little brain of yours working!

Yes Alison, I hate how marginalized minorities are always trying to throw their differences in the face of a historically antagonistic and overwhelming majority of straights! You don’t see straights calling Santa Workshops, Nativity Scenes, Haunted Houses, Easter Parades, St Patricks Day Parades, Mardi Gras etc etc “Straight _________” even though of course lets not dare actually include visible and welcoming LGBT representation into these things – ever. As long as we don’t state it’s straight we are in the clear. DADT may be done with but how about YMABDDTBIIMMU? You May Ask and But Definitely Don’t Tell Because It… Read more »

I’m confused. Is this the house on Vista where the ladies live?

Wow, this looks really fun and creative. Surprised it is happening on the eastside. It would seem more appropriate at West Hollywood Park.

Can anything in this City just be without the label “lesbian” or “gay”? Can’t it be just a feminist haunted house? Not everybody in this City is gay/lesbian/trans/bi/….. This City manages to marginalize the straight population in every way.

Eye roll. There is no need to ‘reclaim’ Halloween or take it back from ‘radical evangelical groups’. The people in this city need to lighten up
