L.A. Supervisor Sheila Kuehl Tells It Like It Is

The West Hollywood City Council puts up with screaming rants from local store owner Nir Zilberman and sometimes obscene shouts from the elderly (and hard-of-hearing) Jeanne Dobrin. Eventually the mayor gavels them into place .

But perhaps our quiet City Council members should follow L.A. County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl’s lead the next time they are assaulted with crazy talk.

A video posted recently by LAObserved shows Kuehl at the Dec. 8 Board of Supervisors meeting responding to local gadfly John Walsh (remember, they aren’t exclusive to WeHo). In his speech, Walsh calls the supervisors anti-Semites because of their decision to welcome Syrian refugees fleeing ISIA to L.A. County. We have an all-Gentile board of supervisors, he says. And he particularly calls out Kuehl, whose 3rd County Supervisor District includes West Hollywood.

Kuehl, who is a Jew, tells Walsh that he’s wrong, using an expletive that pretty accurately describes him based on his behavior before the Board of Supervisors. It’s all shown in the video above.

Sheila Kuehl demonstrated that she is crass and, profane, and lacks professionalism in her sophomotic outburst. She could easily have been mistaken for a truck driver (not pretty). She had no right to interrupt, despite her disagreement with the message or the speaker. This is America and that guy had a right to speak his mind.

Say what you will about Jean, but no one, I mean no one, knows land use in West Hollywood better than she does. Could she tone it down a bit, or a lot? Sure. Is she a West Hollywood character? Of course!

Jim, I love Jean, but I have to say that I’ve been watching Council meetings since the 90’s, and Jean has always acted that way, even before she lost her faculties. She’s actually toned it down a bit, as she’s aged.

Ya know, sometimes enough is enough. I believe that everyone should be treated fairly, with respect and humanity, and that generalizations ALWAYS get us into trouble. Being Jewish, I understand John Walsh’s passion and fears. What he said and did at the Supervisor’s meeting, was reprehensible. Sheila’s grace and ability to rein in her emotions in such a short period of time is just another example of why I voted for and will always support her. Jean is Jean, and as a disabled senior, I understand her frustration and anger, unfortunately, those things get the best of her and she… Read more »

Nir, you are a passionate and opinionated man, but that doesn’t give you the right to treat the Council with disrespect, as you did when you went off on them earlier this year. I could tell that the room was seriously rattled, and the deputy should have excused you from the room, when you left the podium, approached the council directly, and screamed at them. People love to demonize politicians, but everyone deserves to be treated with respect, and spoken to with decorum, even if you disagree with them, or are at odds with their opinions or behavior or actions.… Read more »

We live in peace village compared to the city council meetings of L.A. I don’t mind Nirs and I adore Jean Dobrin who really graces us with her keen mind and memory. And I think Sheila Kuehl is fabulous.

While this might be marginally humorous, it is quite awful. Lindsey Horvath definitely has the upper hand in dealing with with loose canons……..grace, intelligence and dignity.

It is our fabulous, wonderful Sheila! We graduated UCLA at the same time together a number of years ago, and I am always proud to know her, admire her acumen, and praise her leadership. Sheila KUEHL is the one who goes the extra distance in everything she does: Assemblywoman, State Senator, 3rd District L.A. County Supervisor! She has a law degree, and has taught law and U.S. political history. There is only praise for the woman that has taken command of the L.A. County 3rd District Supervisory role, Sheila KUEHL!

You go, Supervisor Kuehl! I kind of wish more politicians would simply call it like it is.
