West Hollywood will host a public meeting on Thursday to discuss proposed changes in the city’s noise control ordinance.
Among the recommended changes:
— The current code states that sound shall not be audible to neighbors 50 feet from the property line between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. The new ordinance would ban sounds audible 25 feet from the property line.
— The existing ordinance regulates noise produced by engines, motors and mechanical devices in a garage or other space, making it illegal to produce such noise audible 50 feet away. The proposed audience would make it illegal to produce such noise audible 10 feet away from a residence.
— The proposed ordinance would prohibit the delivery of goods and the loading or unloading of materials in residential neighborhoods or within 50 feet of residentially zoned neighborhoods between the hours of 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. The current ordinance prohibits such activity “in such manner as to cause noise disturbance” without specifying the distance from which the sound cannot be audible.
— Commercial tree trimming will be included in the prohibition of noise audible by a certain distance from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. Homeowners would not be barred for trimming trees on their own property.
The Thursday meeting will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the West Hollywood Library Community Meeting Room, 625 N. San Vicente Blvd. south of Santa Monica.
Ok guys enough…Ive never lived in a city that has a noise ordinance in my life. If you live in a city noise is a major part of it and Im sick of the quietness of WeHo. There is no noise here. If you want quietness go too the country do not live in a city your spoiled children of WeHo that can’t think for yourselves without someone doing it for you. Since the Abbey got approval to be a dance club we can hear the music nights and weekends.. we never use to hear it before that. I know others in the neighborhood have complained about it too.
…which is all the more reason that Jason Illoulian (new owner of the French Market and the troublesome club next to it at 7969 SM BL) should scrap his plans to keep that club while tearing down the historic and architecturally-significant French Market building. That club has been a noise-generating thorn-in-the-side to neighbors and law enforcement as far back as I can remember in my 32+ years in LA; constantly being shut down for noise and other violations. That would eliminate the Santa Monica Boulevard nightclubs. They are easily heard at the 50 feet limit let alone 10′.
The ordinance applies to sound from commercial districts heard within a certain distance from residential neighborhoods.
Keep it up NIMBY WeHo…..All those babies and their parents that live in WeHo now do desperately need peace and quiet, so that’s understandable.
