West Hollywood not only is losing the original Hustler store, it also is losing one of its two porn star blocks of fame.
Brian Gross, a publicist for Hustler, the vendor of adult sex toys, said the foot and hand prints of famous adult stars such as Jenna Jameson and Marilyn Chambers, now in the pavement at the building’s entryway, will be moved to Hustler’s new location at 6540 Hollywood Blvd.
The new location, between Vine and Highland, will open for business on Friday. A formal opening celebration featuring an appearance by Hustler founder and Chairman Larry Flynt and porn performer Alexis Texas will be held at 6:30 p.m. April 9.
No exact date has been set for the closing of the West Hollywood store, which opened in December 1998 and is at 8920 W. Sunset Blvd. at Hilldale. The store will be demolished and replaced with a version of London’s Arts Club by Gwyneth Paltrow and Gary Landesburg, her business partner. Both are members of the London club.
In addition to Jameson and Chambers, the porn block of fame includes hand and foot prints from Belladonna, Ron Jeremy, Gloria Leonard, Ginger Lynn, William Margold, Seka, Herschel Savage ,John Stagliano and Sunset Thomas. Their profiles can be found here. West Hollywood’s other porn block of fame is in front of Studs, the adult theatre at 7734 Santa Monica Blvd. across the street from the intersection with Genesee. Its stars include Harry Reems, Linda Lovelace and Jay Lawrence.
Hustler Walk of Fame BLOXXX update(s):12 some of them have already been moved over to the 6540 Hollywood Blvd. location. Mine and Seka’s are the only ones left in front of the 8920 Sunset Blvd. location, while many still remain along the north side of that building. This may well be a very long on-going transitional/relocating period. And rumors of at least one original BLOXXX being destroyed during its relocation attempt have arisen. Since I have a vested interest in all things historically relevant to XXX…I will continue to provide BLOXXX updates in a timely manner.
I’m glad those prints are being preserved, I knew this West Hollywood location wouldn’t be a Hustler retail store forever! I’d like to see the Studs (formerly Pussykat) Theater be granted historic landmark status. Most of the adult film stars who left their hand and foot prints in front of that theater are no longer with us.
I remember when this was my Blockbuster Video store. I think Hollywood Blvd is a more appropriate and significant location than this ever was.
Major oversight: I left the name of GLORIA LEONARD off the list, which is eerie, since the magnificent lady was inducted the same night that I was…January 17, 2002.
